AIRBORNE SENSING OF CLEAR AIR TURBULENCE

Vernon I. Weihe

Peer Reviewed

Abstract: The designer of a practical airborne sensor for clear air turbulence detection and avoidance will earn the gratitude of thousands of pilots and millions of passengers. In addition, he will find the monetary rewards to be very substantial. During the next decade, clear air turbulence equipment may very well be established as required equipment in many aircraft, taking its place alongside weather radar, to provide turbulence avoidance in both fair and stormy weather.
