Abstract: Preface The first Annual Summary of Progress in Navigational Science was compiled by the Institute of Navigation for the year 1950, and a second such summary was compiled for 1951. Unfortunately, the excellent precedent set by the 1950 and 1951 summaries was not followed in the ensuing twelve years. However, in June 1963 teh chairman of the technical committees requested the committees to reactivate the annual summaries. The result is the Summary of Progress in Navigational Science for the year 1963 which is presented below in three sections prepared by the chairmen and members of the Technical Committees for Marine, Air and Space respectively, as indicated. The revised By-Laws of the Institute, recently adopted, will henceforth perpetuate these annual summaries by making their preparation a required function of the executive vice-president and the technical committees.
