Abstract: | A study of the history of the technology of navigation proves as rewarding and interesting to todays Navigator or Instrumentation Engineer as it does to the historian. This paper presents a pictorial survey and description of celestial data acquisition instrumentation from earliest times to the present. Principle features of each instrument and it's place in relation to the navigational concepts of it's day are discussed. |
