Abstract: AN OPERATIONAL COLLISION avoidance system is being used by McDonnell in the St. Louis area. The system has demonstrated a capability for providing timely collision avoidance maneuver information to pilots engaged in supersonic, as well as low speed, maneuvering flight. The application of the system to civil flight operations (particularly the airlines) has raised questions regarding the economical, technological, and operational suitability of the McDonnell Eliminate Range “0” system (EROS). This discussion answers these questions.
