Abstract: GENERAL TRENDS in the avionics industry and rapid development of t’he required technology indicate a greatly increased use of new devices and techniques in t’he avionics systems of future aircraft such as the SST. The increased use of digital computation and control int’roduces new problems of system integration and interface definition. It also presents opportunities for system optimization and provides operational capabilities not easily attained with present day equipments. Two examples of new avionics systems now under development for the SST era are the collision avoidance system ((24s) and satellite communication (Satcom). These offer new capabilities for improved air traffic control systems which will be required in the not too distant future.
