Michael A. Iacona

Abstract: NAVIGATION REQUIRED to support oceanographic survey operations in remote ocean areas is discussed. Astronomical, geodetic and geocentric navigational positioning methods are investigated, as are non-inertial dead reckoning methods which tend to minimize ship’s total velocity error. An example problem is presented to illustrate the use of a multiple sensor Navigation Subsystem in establishing a survey datum.
