EXPANDED APPLICATIONS OF NAVY NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM IN MARINE AND AIR NAVIGATION

Capt. Edward F. Gallagher

Peer Reviewed

Abstract: THE NAW NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM is serving as a navigation reference to selected Fleet users. Other applications in naval warfare are being investigated, however, applications are correlated to first priority of meeting fleet requirements of FBM and CVA installations. Recent release of some types of receiver systems fer non-military use provides new alternatives for those commercial interests with requirement for precise, worldwide, all weather navigation or position information. User equipment development and availability is examined as well as further applications to satisfy navigation and position requirements.
