Abstract: The need for an electronic navigation aid for foot soldiers has become severe in tactical situtations such as those in Viet Nam. The Improved Position Locator (IPL) is proposed as a solution to many of the navigation problems of the foot soldier. The IPL system is described with an emphasis on user application. Results of extensive tests, including a four month evaluation in Viet Nam, are presented.
