Abstract: A pratical X-band enhancer which will respond to marine radars operating in the 9300 to 9500 MHz frequency band without the necessity for radar tuning has been developed by Vega Precision Laboratories and field tested. The reply echo from the all solid state enhancer will be seen as a normal radar echo except that it is fixed high power and coded for identification. If the radar receiver is detuned then the enhancer reply overrides the usual radar clutter such as unwanted echoes from the sea, land or rain. The equipment may be strategically located and used for navigation of rivers and waterways or it may be used to enhance the radar return from small boats for collision avoidance and also search and rescue.
