Abstract: | In a 1973 paper [Pisacane, et.al., 1973] we described an improvement in the Transit System to remove the biases caused by ignoring the polewander (Chandler Wobble). As a result of the ‘73 changes we reduced the correlated errors in the system from 5-10 m to l-5 m. Beginning in August 1975, a number of improvements are planned for the Transit System. Some of these are designed specifically to automate the system operation and thereby cut the operation and maintenance cost. These will not be described here; however, reductions in operating costs should have a beneficial effect on the system’s life-expectancy. |
