| Abstract: | The design of an inertially aided radio navigation system using a scanning DME interrogator set is discussed, and flight test performance data of this area navigator and of the scanning DME subsystem are presented. Under poor geometric conditions and with 3”/sec turn maneuvers the l-sigma position uncertainty is about 100 m. In an all-DME standby mode the maximum navigation error was less than 700 m. The navigation system is suitable for area navigation on parallel airlanes. Some operational problems are touched upon. |
