Abstract: | The six-hundredth anniversary of the Catalan “Map of the World’ of 1375 at Barcelona was cause for an edition of the beautiful document,’ wherein several experts provided contributions, elucidating critically the interesting work from different points of view. In this way it is possible to aid in the examination of the 12 sheets, which relate to so many fields. The original of the work was a gift from the king of Aragon to the French king and was a truly royal gift. A fit edition of this work in the German language’ only gives some notes as an introduction and the translation of some legends (e.g. to illustrations). So, the scholar is left to explore by himself the grandeur of this medieval work, which is convincing by itself. |
