Abstract: | This paper addresses the development of the “Inland Navigational Rules Act of 1980” (P.L. 96-591) which was signed into law on December 24, 1980. That legislation contains rules which replace the existing Great Lakes, Western Rivers, and Inland Rules of the Road. The resulting rules are more compatible with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (72 COLREGS). |
