Abstract: | A digital data service standard for operation over the analog AMPS system has been developed. The standard is Cellular Digitail Packet Data (CDPD). It allows data to operate over idle voice channels at a data rate of 19.2 Kbps. The CDPD standard allows cellular equipped users to operate in a wireless network environment. For wideband, spread spectrum cellular systems (CDMA), three different data services are being developed. These standards provide for asynchronous and fax services, short messaging and data packet services. These services make use of the existing CDMA channels directly. This paper reviews both CDPD and CDMA cellular data services. |
