Peer Reviewed

Abstract: This paper discusses how the GPS Operational Control Segment is evolving from a mainframe-based architecture to a distributed, modular architecture. The new architecture will facilitate future enhancements and the incorporation of new functionality into GPS. The paper details the architecture evolution approach that is currently being implemented. Specifically, the architecture evolution goals, the phases of the Architecture Evolution Plan, and the risk mitigation approach are discussed.
