The Synthetic Meta-Signal Observations: A Multipath Resistance Assessment

GNSS meta-signals are playing an increasing role in the GNSS domain. The opportunistic combination of measurements coming from different signal frequencies unlock several advantages such as enhanced performance and higher-accuracy observations. Several studies investigated the potentialities of meta-signal approach, and its benefits in terms of positioning accuracy have been demonstrated. In the present study, the multipath resistance of meta-signal observations is investigated, in order to provide a characterization of these measurements in terms of robustness to such a phenomenon. Several IGS stations have been considered for this analysis, and Galileo and BeiDou systems are the inspected GNSSs, in accordance with previous studies. Furthermore, a dataset collected by an automotive-grade receiver in an urban canyon context is analyzed, with the purpose to assess the performance of such synthetic measurements in degraded scenarios. From the analysis it emerged that, meta-signals provided optimistic performance in terms of multipath resistance, but a limitation has been detected on the number of available measurements when high-accuracy pseudorange is used.
