Description:
Designed specifically for long-term seaboard use aboard Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines. The MOD 6 configuration added a 4th gyro as a monitor to limit errors.

Developed for Polaris submarine program in late 1955. Created to support submarine-launched missile capability. Designed by MIT Instrumentation Laboratory and Sperry Gyroscope Corporation. Used in Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines from 1959 to early 2000s. Used an embedded Mardan computer with 1950s technology. Utilized gas spin bearings and advanced gyro technologies.
