Brass Gunter's quadrant dated 1657... with two fixed sights on one edge. Contains degree scale, calendar scale, star position projections. Lists six specific stars with their meridian transit times. Specific Latitude: 53°20' (possibly Liverpool).
Item History:
Simplified version of Arabic astrolabe. Named after Edmund Gunter (born 1581). Primary use was determining time of day. Calculated using sun's altitude, declination, and observer's latitude.
