The High Iron Ore Content Brick Enclosure’s Impact on a Commissioning DVOR’s 9960 Hz Modulation Depth

As for a commissioning DVOR, its surroundings such as the brick enclosure or the trees have a significant effect on the 9960Hz Modulation Depth. The parameter reflects the spatial signal modulation level and affects the bearing error of the DVOR.
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the problem-solving process of the abnormity of a commissioning DVOR’s 9960Hz modulation depth. After abundant work was done (including removing the barbed wire), the problem was solved perfectly when the brick enclosure of the DVOR was pushed down. The writers reached a conclusion that a high iron ore content brick wall may affect the DVOR even if the height of the wall meets the requirements of the siting criteria.
