Session C4a: Latest Advancement from GNSS Receiver and Localization Algorithm Manufacturers (10-Minute Presentations)

MediaTek GNSS Readiness for Android LBS Ecosystem
Pei-Hung Jau, Hung-Jen Chen, Po-Chun Yang, Ying-Han Chen and Chin-Tang Weng, MediaTek Inc
Location: Holiday 4-5 (Second Floor)
Date/Time: Thursday, Sep. 11, 4:00 p.m.

In this article, we are going to reveal the MediaTek GNSS readiness for Android LBS Ecosystem. It will include the latest status of raw measurements on the latest MediaTek GNSS solution. The update of 3DMA enhancement in 2025 will be shared. The new added interface in Android-16 will be discussed as well.
The raw measurement interface has been published for a while since 2016. MediaTek tends to provide raw measurement with richness of signals from different constellations. In the past 2 years, the correctness and quality of raw measurement are gradually improved through the intensive cooperate with Android Location and Contest Team. The current MediaTek GNSS solution can simultaneously provide more than half-hundreds of raw measurements from multiple signals of different constellations. Furthermore, the performance of time synchronization between GNSS and Android system time can easily achieve sub-msec for further sensor fusion application.

Bluesky with 3DMA has been used since 2020 and updated in 2021 to enhance the overall positioning performance in urban canyon. In the past few years, the coverage of Bluesky was gradually expended to more and more area around the world. In this year, we will re-visit this topic again to see the enhancement of Bluesky in 2025 from chipset vendor’s perspective.
In the Android-16, a set of new interfaces will be added for providing more assistances and corrections from Google service to GNSS chipset. One of them is used for correcting the ionospheric delay with better corrections source. This correction will reduce the modeling error comparing to the broadcasted models, such as Klobuchar and NeQuick model. It could be the potential candidate to overcome the recent ionospheric situation caused by the stronger solar activity which is expected to another peak in its 11-year cycle.
In the end of this article, we wish to share the readiness of MediaTek GNSS solution through the experimental results and analysis in lab and in field.
