u-blox and GMV partnership promises to revolutionize Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in the Automotive industry. The combination of both companies’ expertise and years of research has crystallized into u-safe, an end-to-end, cost-effective and reliable solution aimed at covering current needs of Tier 1s and OEMs all over the world. Autonomous Driving Level 3 and beyond increasingly transfers decision making responsibilities towards the vehicle. The final goal will be to increase both the comfort for the driver and the overall safety of the global vehicle fleet while the technology optimizes production costs and processes for autonomous cars. With this objective in the roadmap, it is obvious that reliable detection of the surroundings is crucial to facilitate the necessary level of safety required by these critical applications.
u-safe comprises an ASIL-B (ISO 26262), SOTIF (ISO 21488) certified correction service and on-board positioning engine tested on millions of kms, safely operating across European and North American public roads. Together with u-blox A9 functional safety chipset (ISO 26262 ASIL-B compliant), the solution is aimed at providing best-in-class performance reaching decimetre level accuracy, fast convergence and assured safety and integrity metrics. u-safe correction service is delivered through a proprietary cloud-base delivery platform supporting the delivery of billions of messages. The A9 Safe Measurement Engine provides the GNSS raw data from three constellations (GPS, GALILEO and BeiDou) to the Safe Position Engine, which combines other critical components such as the Safe Corrections, IMU and Wheel Speed Sensors to provide the high positioning solution. Computed PVT and Protection level cover Target Integrity Risks such low as 10-7/h (in other words, 1 failure every 1.100 years); and also implements cybersecurity mechanisms according to ISO/SAE 21434.
This paper presents u-safe high-accuracy and high-integrity positioning solution, specifically designed to accelerate the adoption of autonomous vehicles. A9 functional safe GNSS chip has been designed to meet the stringent functional safety requirements such as lane-accurate positioning and geo-fencing and complying with the stringent industry safety standards. As well, overarching performances will be presented, aimed at fulfilling the stringent needs of the Automotive industry.
Thanks to the joint effort of both companies, u-safe is presented in a holistic approach, offering not only and end-to-end solution including hardware and the components of an operational service, but also offers the integration project support, solution delivery, service and maintenance during the production phase. This flexible approach allows to minimize the time to market thanks to an easy and fast integration into different target systems and architectures, yet at an optimized cost.
