Dr. Dorota Grejner-Brzezinska has served as the president of The Institute of Navigation (ION) from January 2015 – February 2017. Her term of office has been characterized by the establishment of professional partnerships between ION and other international Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) organizations, which includes collaborative meetings between the ION and the International Institutes of Navigation, the Royal Institute of Navigation, the IEEE AESS, ISPRS, FIG, and IAG. During her time as ION president, she has represented the ION in numerous international forums, drawing on her international research collaborations and recognized broad expertise.
Dr. Grejner-Brzezinska’s presidency has also been characterized by her initiatives designed to support and engage women who are in the early stages of their PNT careers, and to provide them with the opportunity to engage with senior level mentors who are established, experienced and seasoned PNT professionals through Women in PNT networking events.
During her term of office, academic peer reviews of conference papers were expanded at the International Technical Meeting and ION GNSS+. Additionally, the ION Council updated the ION’s Strategic Plan and approved a newly adopted Code of Ethics.
Dr. Grejner-Brzezinska has been actively involved in ION since 2000, and has been a member of Council in various capacities since 2003. She has been a program and general chair of the National Technical Meeting (now the International Technical Meeting) and an ION GNSS+ track chair; served on multiple committees; and served as a session chair on numerous occasions. She has received ION’s Thurlow Award (2005), Kepler Award (2016) and is an ION Fellow (2011).
