Gibbons-Glen

Mr. Glen Gibbons is group editorial director and associate publisher, geospatial business, for Advanstar Communications. In this capacity, he leads the editorial and product development activities of several business-to-business publications. Based in Eugene, Ore., he is the founding editor of GPS World magazine (37,000 audited circulation), a monthly trade publication launched in January 1990 that covers news and applications of the Global Positioning System, as well as associated engineering issues including product design and systems integration. In 1999, he launched Galileo's World, a quarterly magazine covering the European satellite positioning system now under development. He also has editorial oversight responsibility for Geospatial Solutions, a monthly magazine covering news and applications of geographic information system and related technologies, and GeoIntelligence, which explores the use of geospatial technologies for national defense and homeland security.

GPS World has evolved to cover all aspects of GPS: government policies and budgets, products and services in the marketplace, new research, and people. Mr. Gibbons is sharp and provocative in his editorials on issues ranging from government policies to sociological changes being wrought by GPS. A regular column "Washington View" offers an insider's view of policies in the making. The "Innovation" column continues to publish articles on the cutting edge research topics written in surprisingly understandable English. Mr. Gibbons has developed GPS World to occupy an important position in the satellite navigation world.

Mr. Gibbons has a bachelor's degree in political science from Willamette University in Salem, Ore., and a master of arts degree from the University of Oregon School of Journalism. Previously, he worked as a reporter and editor for daily and weekly newspapers in the Pacific Northwest and has published in numerous journals and magazines.
