2003 Distinguished Service Award

Presented to: Mr. Larry Hothem

Citation: In grateful recognition of his leadership and achievements on behalf of the Institute of Navigation.

Mr. Larry Hothem has served as the Institute of Navigation’s president from June 2003 to June 2004. Prior to his term as president, he served on the ION’s Executive Committee and the ION Council holding several positions including ION treasurer from 1996 to 2002 and land representative (1990 to 1992 and 1995 to 1997). Mr. Hothem also served as the general chair (2001) and program chair (2000) of the Satellite Division’s International Technical Meeting. 

During his term as ION president, Mr. Hothem was instrumental in the adoption of the ION’s Graduate Section Awards Program, which was instituted for the purpose of encouraging graduate students to work in the navigation field and develop long-term involvement with the Institute. This, and other outreach efforts, will be remembered as his legacy to The Institute.
