Citation: For his lifetime contributions to navigation, first as a practical navigator, then as a teacher and finally as a supervisor; during which time he was instrumental in the commercial evaluation of jet stream , Doppler, and inertial navigation. As a supervisor he navigated the first commercial jet transport flights across the Atlantic and early commercial flights across the North Pole.
