| Abstract: | Sperry Marine is developing a highly reliable, high performance cost-effective strapdown ring laser gyro marine gyrocompass, the MK39, for application in U.S. and foreign navies. The MK39 is a miniature version of the MK49 MARLIN (Marine Ring Laser Inertial Navigator) (Reference 1) which is in production as the standard NATO-SINS for ships and submarines. The MK39 utilizes the identical sensor block assembly (Figure 1) and electronics cards (Figure 2) that have been proven on the MARLIN system. The sensor block assembly contains a triad of production Honeywell GG-1342 laser gyros and a triad of production Sundstrand Q-Flex accelerometers. High production volume and proven reliability of the gyros and accelerometers translate into competitive price and low risk. |
