PREFACE
The Institute held a delightful and productive National Marine Meeting hosted by The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies, Linthicum Heights, Maryland from 31 October to 1 November, 1977.
The morning of 31 October a Council Meeting was held and Colonel Emmett DeAvies was selected by The Council to take over the job of Executive Director. Other matters were also discussed.
The afternoon session on 31 October was opened by welcoming remarks from Mr. Max Carpenter, Executive Director of The MIT & GS, and a response was made by Mr. Jeff Schmidt, ION President. The afternoon session on LORAN, OMEGA and Radar was chaired by Mr. Vernon Weihe, Consultant.
On 1 November the morning Session on Navigation for Special Missions was chaired by Mr. Hilliard Lubin, President of International Maritime Systems.
The luncheon speaker on 1 November was Vice Admiral Shannon D. Cramer, USN (Ret.), recently retired as Head of the Defense Mapping Agency, who gave an interesting talk on the subject of the International Hydrographic Conference in Monaco in 1977.
The afternoon session on General Navigation on 1 November was chaired by Mr. Ron Kosar, Head of the Engineering Department, MIT & GS
Mr. Max Carpenter, Executive Director, MIT & GS was General Chairman for the meeting.
Capt. Wayne Waldo, MIT & GS was the Technical Chairman.
