Journal Submission Process
NAVIGATION, Journal of the Institute of Navigation, publishes original manuscripts, selected papers from The Institute's meetings and, when appropriate, invited papers. Manuscripts should be submitted online via the NAVIGATION manuscript website.
Submission of a manuscript is a representation that the paper has not been previously published in open literature, is not currently submitted for publication elsewhere, and that the author(s) have not assigned or transferred copyright.
AUTHORS should reflect clear thought through chosen, specific words composed in direct, responsible and active syntax. The Editor cannot undertake to rewrite papers and therefore will return manuscripts found deficient in style, form, or clarity.
MANUSCRIPTS for review and publication should be submitted
online:

Manuscripts should be typewritten with double spacing and wide margins on one side of 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. A brief abstract stating the principal points and conclusions of the paper should be included. Equations require special typographical consideration and additional space and margin area should be allowed.
REFERENCES should be numbered consecutively in the text using bracketed numerals and listed in the same order at the end of the paper. Give author(s) name, initials, title of article, journal or book, volume, initial page number and year.
FOOTNOTES should be avoided.
ILLUSTRATIONS must be referenced in the text and numbered in order of appearance. Photographs that will require half-tone reproduction must be glossy prints. Line drawings may be submitted in original form or as glossy prints. Illustrations produced by office-type copying machines are generally unsuitable and generally will be rejected. While preparing line illustrations, it is important to avoid extremes of light and dark contrast. Lettering should be done with uniform character size and properly proportioned to the figure, bearing in mind that it is usually necessary to enlarge or reduce the illustration photographically in order to accommodate page format characteristics.
PAGE proof is sent to the author. It should be proofread carefully, marked according to instructions, and returned to the Editor promptly. Extensive alterations and revisions are costly, time consuming and may delay publication. Excessive costs will be charged to the author.
