The Institute of Navigation is pleased to announce sponsorship opportunities for worthy technical papers written by students.
This sponsorship gives student authors an opportunity to attend and present their papers at the world's leading international GNSS conference. ION GNSS 2008 will be held in Savannah, Georgia, September 16-19, 2008.
Both graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to submit papers on GNSS related research for consideration in this exciting program! Selected students will present their technical paper in the professional session appropriate to the paper’s topic.
ABOUT THE MEETING
Sponsored by the Satellite Division of the Institute of Navigation, ION GNSS is the largest international GNSS conference of the year. Students will have the opportunity to meet industry leaders and learn about the latest developments in GNSS technology. Seminars presenting both introductory and advanced GNSS tutorials related to the conference sessions also will be offered on September 15 and 16.
WHO MAY SUBMIT A PAPER?
Full-time undergraduate or graduate students in engineering, science, mathematics or other related fields are eligible. Groups of student authors are acceptable (no faculty co-authors), but only one student per paper will be sponsored to attend the conference as a winner.
The student sponsored will be the student required to present the paper. Students who have been sponsored to attend the ION GNSS meeting in the past are not eligible.
WHO WILL BE REVIEWING?
The session chairs for the technical session most applicable to your paper’s topic will review your paper. If your paper is selected to be presented as
a primary paper in that session (note that alternate papers are not eligible for sponsorship), your travel and conference expenses to attend the ION GNSS 2008 meeting will be sponsored by the Institute of Navigation (some restrictions apply).
SELECTION CRITERIA
Papers on GNSS research will be judged based on technical content, clarity and presentation. The best papers will be selected, and the lead author of each winning paper will be sponsored by ION to attend the meeting and present their paper in one of the professional technical sessions.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE
An electronic version of your final paper in proper form, and the session designation for which session your paper should be considered, must be received by the ION National Office no later than March 5, 2008. Submissions will be acknowledged within two weeks of receipt.
An application and information packet including a sample paper, format sheets for final paper preparation, and final paper submission information will be e-mailed to you from the ION National Office upon request (all papers are judged from the final paper). To request an application, a paper preparation packet and further instructions, please fax or e-mail your full name, complete mailing address, phone, fax, and e-mail address to:

SPONSORED STUDENTS RECEIVE
- Travel Sponsorship.
Student travel sponsorship provides a flat rate of travel subsidy based on the country in which the sponsoring school is located (not the country in which the student may reside) as follows:
United States: $1,300
Canada: $1,500
U.K., Western European Countries: $2,000
Brazil: $2,200
China, Korea, Japan: $2,300

The sponsored student is responsible for making all travel arrangements. Travel subsidy/sponsorship funds for the ION GNSS sponsored student program shall be remitted directly to the sponsored student’s academic institution or professor once the ION National Office receives proof of visa/passport (if applicable). Travel costs that exceed the published amount shall be borne by the student. The university shall retain funds in excess of actual sponsored student’s travel. Failure to do so would affect the acceptance of future paper(s) submitted for consideration under the sponsored student program.
