ION Awards

The Institute of Navigation is a scientific, nonprofit organization, founded in 1945. Its programs are directed toward elevating standards of navigation by coordinating the knowledge and achievements of practicing navigators, scientists, and those involved in the development and production of navigation equipment. The Institute sponsors and administers several awards to recognize individuals making significant contributions, or demonstrating outstanding performance relating to navigation.

ANNUAL AWARDS

The Institute sponsors seven major annual awards. Nominations are solicited from the navigation community. The presentation of these coveted awards is a highlight of the ION International Technical Meeting.

Nominations for these awards may be submitted by anyone, but all nominations must be in conformance with ION nomination standards. Recipients need not be members. Those received in correct form by October 15 will be considered.

ION FELLOWS AND HONORARY FELLOWS

The Council of the Institute of Navigation has established the grades of Fellow and Honorary Fellow of the Institute. An individual may be nominated for selection as a Fellow Member or Honorary Fellow on the basis of his/her distinguished sustained professional contributions to the advancement of the Technology, Management, Practice and Teaching of the Arts and Sciences of Navigation, and/or for lifetime contributions to the Institute.

Former members of the ION who are not currently active members of the organization may be elected to non-voting Fellow Membership.

Election to Honorary Fellow Membership is authorized for non-members of the Institute of Navigation who are qualified by their accomplishments for recognition as a non-voting Fellow Member. Members of other national institutes of navigation are also considered in this category.

Nominations may be submitted by currently active ION members. All nominations must be in conformance with ION nomination guidelines as outlined on the nomination form. Nominations received in correct form by October 15 will be considered.

KEPLER AWARD

The Satellite Division of the Institute of Navigation has the opportunity to present the prestigious Johannes Kepler Award when deemed worthy. The winner of this award will be determined by a special nominating committee of the ION's Satellite Division. You are encouraged to submit names of individuals for consideration. PARKINSON AWARD

The Satellite Division of the Institute of Navigation has approved the Bradford W. Parkinson Award for Excellence in Global Navigation Satellite Systems. PTTI DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

The purpose of this award to recognize outstanding contributions related to the management of PTTI systems. The winner of this award will be determined by a special nominating committee organized by the PTTI Conference Committee. You are encouraged to submit names of individuals for consideration.
